INSTITUTE OF ADVANCED CLINICAL SCIENCES EDUCATION
1. MSc in HEALTH LAW AND POLICYThe programme is designed to:
• enhance the knowledge and competencies of health professionals, service managers and legal practitioners wishing to explore career paths pertinent to the discipline of Health Law and Policy.
• enhance knowledge in the field, with emphasis on international best practice in national and global Health Law.
• nurture research and innovation in Health Law and Policy in Nigerian academia.
Graduates of the programme will be expected to:
• have knowledge of contemporary issues and recent advances in Health Law and Policy.
• deploy this knowledge to inform the formulation, implementation and monitoring of health policy and health services delivery.
• be able to facilitate the development of legal frameworks underpinning clinicalpractice.
The programme comprises a wide range of courses to be delivered over one calendar year.
Taught courses will be conducted over two semesters, then students will have 3 months to
work on and submit a dissertation. Hybrid instruction will be through a combination of virtual
and face-to-face interactions. Online teaching and learning through the University’s e-
learning resources will be complemented by face-to-face teaching over two weekends per
semester. Each student shall make two 1-hour seminar presentations.
Admission requirements
Applicants for admission into the Master’s degree programme shall possess:
(a) a first degree in Medicine, Dentistry, Law or any other discipline in the Health Sciences and Social Sciences (MBBS, BDS, LLB, B.Sc 2:2 or higher) or
(b) a registrable professional qualification and a minimum of two years’ post-qualification field experience; or
(c) any other qualification deemed equivalent and acceptable by the Board of the Postgraduate School and approved by the University Senate.
2.MSc/PhD Programme in Medical Sciences, Surgical Sciences, Pathology Sciences, and Dental Sciences
Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for admission into the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED) course leading to the award of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Clinical/Surgical/ Dental/Pathology Sciences, commencing in the 2023/24 academic year. UNIMED is a young, dynamic, and forward-looking institution specialized in the education of health sector personnel. About the degree programme
The purpose of this programme is to produce medical scientists who are able to conduct high-level research, translate scientific discoveries into medical advances, and respond to emerging challenges in medical/dental education. It is targeted at the following clinicians wishing to pursue an academic career:
1. Medical residents undergoing specialist residency training in tertiary health institutions.
2. Medical Fellows employed in tertiary health institutions as Hospital Consultants;
3. Medical Fellows who are academic staff of medical schools in their universities; they participate in teaching ad supervising undergraduate and postgraduate students;
4. Medical doctors in sub-Saharan African countries, such as in the East and Central Africa region, who wish to pursue a Doctorate programme in clinical medicine and dentistry.
The programme, conducted by the Institute of Advanced Clinical Sciences Education, has a strong focus on building research skills and also on methodology of teaching and learning in clinical medicine and dentistry, while also strengthening the base for evidence-based clinical practice. It complements the specialist training carried out by the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria and the West African Postgraduate Medical College.
Admission requirements
Applicants for admission into the programme shall possess:
(a) MBBS/BDS + MSc
or (b) MBBS/BDS + Part 1 Qualification (West African or National PG College)
or (c) MBBS/BDS + Fellowship Qualification (West African or National PG College)
In addition to the professional qualifications above, applicants must be fully registered to practice by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria and hold a valid annual license to practice. Applicants may be admitted with MBBS only, with the proviso that they must complete the MSc program in the relevant discipline in the department or complete and pass the Part I/Membership before they can proceed with the PhD work. The duration of the programme will be 3 years for applicants with (a) or (b) above and 2 years for those with (c). ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR THE PROGRAMMES
AVAILABLE PROGRAMMES
Master of Science (M.Sc.)
An applicant for admission into the M.Sc. degree programme shall be a graduate of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED)
Ondo, or any other approved University recognized by the UNIMED Senate, and with a minimum of Second Class (Lower Division)
in the relevant discipline. Candidates with Third Class Bachelor’s degree or HND (Upper Credit) who in addition,
possess a Postgraduate diploma (PGD) with a minimum CGPA of 3.50 on a 5.00 scale in a relevant discipline may be considered.
Candidates who are not UNIMED graduates may be required to satisfy the Department requirements
for admission via an interview/examination or both
Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)
Applicants for this programme should be:
i. Holders of Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) degree with a research thesis in any of the areas of specialization stated above.
ii. Holders of a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics with a minimum weighted average of 60%.
iii. Candidates that are not UNIMED graduate may be required to satisfy the Department requirement for admission via an interview/examination or both.
General Requirements for all UNIMED Postgraduate Programmes:
Interested candidates shall complete the application form on the University portal and provide
all relevant documents as specified on the application form, including certificates of degrees and/or diplomas, academic transcripts,
three (3) reference letters, and a 500-words statement of intent in the proposed research area.
All programmes in the University require O’ Level Credit pass in English Language and Mathematics
in addition to three other credits in relevant subjects. Candidates who are Nigerian citizens shall,
in addition, provide the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge, exemption or exclusion certificate.
Each candidate shall request and ensure that the institution(s) attended process and forward official academic
transcript(s) directly to the Dean, Postgraduate School. Only candidates whose transcripts are received will be
considered for admission.
Duration of the Postgraduate Programmes
The Master’s programmes shall be for a minimum period of three (3) academic semesters (18 calendar months) and maximum of five (5) academic semesters while some others may extend to minimum of four (4) academic semesters (24 calendar months) and maximum of six (6) academic semesters while Ph.D. programmes are for a minimum of six (6) academic semesters (36 calendar months) and maximum of eight (8) academic semesters.

iv. Click on Student's Portal;
v. On the dropdown list ;
vi. Click on PAYMENT to make payment via online payment system using VISA or MASTER card. Note that VERVE card is not allowed.
vii. After payment, print payment receipt
viii. Click on STUDENT'S PORTAL, and on the dropdown list choose APPLICATION LOGIN, your payment Transaction ID is your password.
